It amazes me that the selection of the equipment to fill a bath has so much emotional dynamics and complications that it often undermines logic functionality during the long and tedious process. Huh, I hear you say….in your mind. be patient and all will be revealed. Before we start talking about bath mixers, we need to talk about your bath. Your plumber will put pressure on you to select and/or buy your taps, especially the concealed shower mixers. Yes, they are needed first because these mixers need to be installed in the wall. But, in order for you to understand what taps you need, you need to select your bath first. No matter what. The type and style of bath will determine what taps you will buy. It will also determine where they will be installed, thus what plumbing is required for the installation.
Full deck mounted bath taps are beautiful and are timeless. They usually consist of two taps; hot and cold, a diverter and hand shower. The advantage is that you can install them anywhere around the bath. Full deck mounted taps can create a fantastic look to your bath. They are available in modern and classic styles.
There is also a very cheap way of filling your bath, that is with two bib taps, one hot and one cold. They can either be installed in a wall (wall mounted) or directly into the bath rim (surprisingly called deck mounted ).
The next type of mixer are those designed for free standing baths. I’ll update this section later.
